Volunteer
Project
Purpose
- The purpose of the volunteer project is to allow children,
youth and families the opportunity to give back to the community
by educating participants about a community need, engaging
them in a hands-on volunteer project and empowering them with
the tools and resources they need to get involved in the community.
Community
Need – The volunteer project will focus on
to help children in poverty in our community. We want to raise
awareness about the importance of education and healthy nutrition
for all children, but particularly those in poverty.
Project
components – Participants will have the opportunity
to give, advocate, volunteer and be educated about the issue
of poverty in Larimer County.
- Give
– Summit participants will be asked to donate new
or gently used children’s books.
- Advocate
– Participants will have the opportunity to write
letters or take other action to influence policy in our
community, possibly around the need for after-school programs.
- Volunteer
– Participants will be asked to donate healthy snack
foods and then assemble snack packs for children that would
include a note of encouragement to brighten the recipient's
day. Participants also can design bookmarks that can be
given to the schools/programs with the books that are collected.
- Education
– There will be an interactive education center that
will provide information and statistics on children and
families living in poverty in Larimer County. Information
about how individuals and families can volunteer, continue
giving to these particular needs and about the agencies
that are recipients of this project.
